Pretending gets man in trouble

Published September 9, 2009

A man allegedly acting as a police officer found himself in jail over the weekend.

Steven Kirk, 42, of Bridgeport has been charged with Impersonating a Police Officer and Criminal Trespassing First Degree after allegedly attempting to enter a residence in Bridgeport Saturday.

Jackson County Sheriff's Office investigator Eric Woodall said Kirk allegedly went to the residence claiming to be from the sheriff’s office.

“He attempted to make entry into the residence,” Woodall said, “after a lady opened the door. She was able to get the door shut without him entering.”

Deputies and Bridgeport Police later arrested Kirk after locating him on foot near the residence.

“Evidently he just picked a random house,” Woodall said. “The motive is still unknown.”

Woodall said Kirk is currently out of the Jackson County Jail on $2,500 bond.
