Council to consider one-time pay raise

Published November 16, 2009

The Scottsboro City Council will discuss one-time pay raises for city employees at its work session Monday night.

Mayor Melton Potter said its something the council has done as long as he can remember.

If approved, full time employees would receive a one-time pay raise of $150 in December. Based on criteria, permanent part-time employees would also receive one- time pay raises of $75 or $50.

By law, it has to be called a one-time pay raise rather than a bonus.

“It comes at a good time for our employees,” Potter said. “It helps a little for the holidays. I am glad we are able to help. Our employees work hard and are deserving.”

Also on the agenda for Monday night:

• J.P. Parsons and Garry Morgan will talk to the council about creating a museum in honor of the Scottsboro Boys.

• The council will discuss a donation for the Jackson County SPCA.

• The council will discuss a resolution for airport improvement funding.
