Two injured in explosion at local plant

Published February 27, 2008

A small explosion at the Aluminum One plant in Scottsboro left two men injured, one seriously, Monday night.

Scottsboro Fire Chief Melton Potter said fire personnel arrived at the plant at 8:45 p.m. and found two burn victims and a skid loader on fire.

According to reports, co-workers were mixing substances when the explosion occurred.

Potter said one man was transferred to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga by Air-Evac, after suffering second and third degree burns on his arms and legs.

The other man received minor injuries and was transferred to Huntsville Hospital by ambulance, Potter said.

The names of the men injured in the incident were not released. Phone calls to the company for comment were not immediately returned Tuesday.

Potter said fire personnel were on the scene for about an hour. He added 200 gallons of water was used.
