Music, fireworks headline Goose Pond’s Fourth

Published July 6, 2009

Today’s Fourth of July Jam at the Goose Pond Amphitheater has been named one of the top 10 celebrations in the State of Alabama, according to event organizer and K98 (98.3 FM) Program Director Bobby Bishop.

Six bands that have singles out and are making an impact nationwide, according to Bishop, will be playing the free concert on the Fourth of July. The Chris Shepard Band will be the first act to start the show at 5 p.m.

After fireworks at 9 p.m., a Goose Pond tradition for years, entertainment will continue for those wishing to spend more time celebrating the holiday.

The Roys will be headlining the event supported by Dana Lane, Kim McLean, Jane Nelsen, Leon Venerable, and the Chris Shepard Band.

The Roys are a country brother and sister duo with the single "That's What We Do" in current rotation on K98.

Dayna Lane can be heard on K98 with the single "I'll Keep Believing."

Kim McLean's single "Ain't No Glory" and Jane Nelsen's "What It Really Is" are also receiving airtime.

Leon Venerable, a local favorite according to Bishop, has a new song "Simple Southern Man" featured on K98 that is getting "tons of requests," Bishop said.

"This is an exciting time for our entire community," Bishop said, "This is the first time so many recording artists have appeared on one stage for one night to celebrate Independence Day in Scottsboro."

After the concert is over at 9 p.m., Jayne Nelsen will sing the national anthem live on K98 to kick off the fireworks show. K98 will then continue to play music set to coincide with the pyrotechnics show, Bishop said.

"The amphitheater is a perfect place for not only large acts to perform, but a great place for local artists. I have never seen an area with so much talent," Bishop said.

K98 with be hosting local talent July 18 at the Goose Pond Civic Center for the 28th Annual Colgate Country Showdown.

"If we have enough interest, I would like to have a free fall concert series every saturday afternoon," Bishop said. Interested solo artists or groups are encouraged to contact Bishop via email at Bishop(at)WKEAFM.com
