City asks for traffic survey

Published March 4, 2010

The Scottsboro City Council agreed at its work session this week to send a traffic light request to the Alabama Department of Transportation.

Council President Matthew Hodges said the city is requesting a traffic survey for the possibility of a traffic light at the intersection of Snodgrass Road and U.S. Highway 72, just past Scottsboro High School.

“We’ve had several people requesting a light there,” said Hodges.

He added that he didn’t know when ALDOT will do the traffic survey.

“They’ll do a traffic count and consider accidents and fatalities that have happened there to see if a light is warranted,” Hodges said.

Early last year, the city sent a request for a traffic light at the intersection of Crawford Road and Alabama Highway 35. However, ALDOT said a light was not warranted based on the study.

“We could go back at a later time and request a caution light there,” Hodges said.
