County board hires more employees

The Jackson County Board of Education met Thursday, Aug. 14, in their regularly scheduled monthly meeting with a rather short agenda, which included several last minute personnel matters.
The board approved the employment of some last minute lunchroom staff and aides to begin the school year. The following were employed at the meeting:
Bridgette Hawkins, science teacher at Macedonia Elementary effective Aug. 4.
Talona King, county-wide special service aide, effective Aug. 12.
Also employed were Crystal McCrary, 70 percent county-wide special service aide; Lillie Underwood, 3.5 hour county-wide special service aide; Carmon Newman, four-hour custodian at Woodville High School; Angie Smart, seven-hour lunchroom worker at Hollywood Elementary; and Bea Sewell, seven-hour lunchroom worker at Pisgah High School. All the appointments were effective with the beginning of school on Aug. 4.
The board also employed Betty Ikard, county-wide video conferencing facilitator, effective Aug. 4 through Dec. 19.
Annette Smith was transferred from seven-hour lunchroom worker at Pisgah High School to county-wide special service aide and Martha Crownover, Spanish teacher at North Sand Mountain high School was transferred from 75 percent to 100 percent teacher, effective Aug. 4.
In other business, the board accepted:
• The resignation of Margaret Chapman, three-hour custodian at Dutton Elementary School, effective Aug. 1.
• A low bid from Tolar Construction for an addition to the Section High School lobby at a cost of $628,100.
