The sale of draft beer in Scottsboro took its first step toward reality Thursday.
The Alabama House approved a bill, sponsored by Reps. John Robinson and Butch Taylor, that would allow voters in Scottsboro to decide whether or not to allow the sale of draft beer.
The bill must now pass the Alabama Senate.
Last October, Margarita's owner John Drain went before the city council requesting the sale of draft beer.
Drain told the council that many restaurants are not coming to Scottsboro due to the no draft beer law.
The council then passed a resolution asking the Jackson County Legislative Delegation to take it to the state Legislature for consideration.
If the bill passes the Senate, the city would then have the authority to set a date for the referendum.
Most likely that referendum would be set in 2010 during the muncipal election.
